Working start for Birmingham school pupil

A Birmingham business has supported a local school’s work placement programme by inviting a pupil to spend time learning about the business.

Myles Watson who attends St Edmund Campion Catholic School has been at Birmingham Volkswagen Van Centre for the past week to learn how the dealership works.

The 15-year-old Year 10 pupil from Erdington has been working with Volkswagen staff who have showed him all aspects of the business.  He said: “The time I’ve spent here has been fantastic and I’d like to thank my school for setting it up for me and Birmingham Volkswagen Van Centre for showing me the ropes.

“I’m interested in a getting into career in the automotive sector so have found my work experience placement to be really beneficial.”

Neil Cook, aftersales manager at Birmingham Volkswagen Van Centre, added: “We are committed in working with local schools as we understand just how important practical work experience to pupils.

“Myles’ enthusiasm and passion for the industry was really refreshing to see and I hope he’s left us with skills he’ll find useful during his working life.”

Denis O’Callaghan, work experience coordinator at St Edmund Campion Catholic School said: “Pupils really benefit from spending time with people from outside the classroom as it adds an extra dimension to their learning.

“The visit to Birmingham Volkswagen Van Centre was no exception and we are grateful to the business for contributing to our educational programme and offering Myles a placement.”
