A week in words

If the Connect PR offices resembled the Mary Celeste last week, then all will become clear in our weekly blog.

Fear not, our able crew haven’t mysteriously disappeared somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, but have had all hands on deck for our clients – with a Viking on board for good measure!

Admiral Lee Southen and commodore Becki Oake have been steering the good boat Goodyear in the right direction with a sustained PR campaign.

The world’s leading tyre brand has relaunched its iconic blimp, and if you have seen it circling the skies in recent days, then you can think of a couple of Connect PR staff on the ground, frantically chasing it to all quarters.

The pair even gave a road safety talk to 90 schoolchildren when they had finally caught up with the great airship.

Back on the boat, a Viking has been sailing the PR seas with us, as Ben Smallman and Lizzie Furnell help run and promote Speedy Hire’s darts sponsorship of the UK Open.

The Viking in question is the one and only Andy Fordham, 2004 world champion and an equally impressive ambassador.

Four Speedy qualifying events have been taking place in Bristol, Dartford, Stoke and Glasgow, with amateur players throwing themselves a place at the tournament known as the ‘FA Cup of Darts’ in June.

The Daily Mirror, The Sun and a host of BBC radio stations and regional titles have stepped up to the oche to report on our events, as we celebrate hitting the target for Speedy.

As if one world champion wasn’t enough, we’ve been working with four more darts stars alongside Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

Sue Foster, Zoe Guest and Lucas Coe joined PDC darts professionals Mark Webster, James Wade, Paul Nicholson and Aaron Monk alongside Premier League host John McDonald and one of the world’s best known referees George Noble, in a formidable nine man crew!

They entertained thousands of people at the Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC, and accentuated the positives of a fantastic sports sponsorship with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

Add in captain Richard Knowles’s countless visits to Volkswagen dealerships this week and admiral Kathy Hodson’s superb steering of a revolutionary new product launch for underfloor heating and plumbing specialists Uponor, and you see why the office has been the stuff of Arthur Conan Doyle fiction.

Just goes to show that if a week is a long time in politics, then it’s a maritime eternity in the sea sailing world of Connect PR.

Have a great week!
