The Badgers Class from Colehill First School, aged from seven to eight, were tasked by one of the country’s leading prestige house builders, Charles Church South Coast to suggest names for the new site in Wimborne.
The person who gave the name closest to the new development name was rewarded with a £20 WHSmith voucher while the class received a £200 voucher.
Katie Greenough, aged eight, from Wimbrone, suggested Riverside as the development is next to the River Stour, which helped Charles Church South Coast to decide on the name Waters Edge.
Mr Turrall, headteacher of Colehill First School said: “It has been fantastic to get the children involved in a fun, but stimulating competition.
“It’s been enjoyable to work on the creation of a new development name and the pupils have had an opportunity to learn more about the housing industry.
“We are sincerely grateful for our vouchers that will go towards providing the pupils with a variety of reading and writing material.
Rob Allen, sales director of Charles Church South Coast, was delighted with the feedback and the way the pupils set about the task.
He said: “The pupils have obviously worked very hard at this competition and the name suggestions were brilliant.
“We tested the pupils to bring a creative flair to their name suggestions and they have risen to the challenge and done an excellent job.
“Many of the ideas produced by the children gave us the creative inspiration for Waters Edge, but Katie’s suggestion was closest to the name chosen.
“While we didn’t use any of the names suggested, Charles Church is very proud of the way the competition helped to decide the name, as it’s important we link with local schools and colleges.”
Mr Turrall, headteacher added: “I can’t thank Rob and everyone at Charles Church enough for involving us in this project and I hope the link between us continues to grow.”
