Housebuilder pledges support to charity

An intensive care unit for premature babies has been selected by Persimmon Homes Anglia as the company’s nominated charity for 2014.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is a specialist regional intensive care unit, one of three centres providing specialist high dependency medical and surgical care across the region.

Andrew Fuller, managing director of Persimmon, said: “At any one time this unit cares for 42 babies from across the region.

“A sick baby is probably every parent’s worst nightmare, but this specialist unit offers not only the very best medical care, but also fantastic support to parents and families.

“As a business we raised more than £13,000 last year for the East Coast Hospice and my hope is that collectively we can at least match that total this year. We are currently looking at as many different ideas for fundraising as possible.”

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit includes nine intensive care cots, six high dependency cots and 14 special care cots and for parents there is a sitting room as well as five bedrooms attached to the unit.

Louise Cook, Fundraising Manager at NNUH, said: “We are delighted that Persimmon Homes are supporting the hospital charity, a hospital where many of their staff and customers will know and have had experience of our services.

“Money raised for our NICU fund will be used to make a difference to our babies and their families. I am pleased that another local company has seen how their support can make an impact on their local community.”
