If, like me, sports and communication are two of your main passions, the world of sports podcasts presents opportunities galore.
Barely a day goes by when a new sports podcast isn’t hitting the airwaves and selecting the right ones in such a crowded marketplace is no easy task.
It’s been hard to whittle down my ‘must listen to’ list – but my three selected podcasts are from sports in which we at 8848 have been prominent with our sports activation programmes in recent years, namely football, cricket and darts.
TMS Podcast
What a summer it’s been for cricket. From England’s incredible World Cup success to an Ashes series which is capturing the nation, the UK’s leading summer sport has never had it so good. We don’t like cricket. We love it!
I could listen to the traditional Test Match Special broadcast for hours on end but – like for so many – work gets in the way.
The 40 minute podcast at the end of every major cricket day this summer has been fantastic listening. Featuring the peerless Jonathan Agnew and master tactician Michael Vaughan, it has brilliantly encapsulated the action on the pitch and the atmosphere off it during a classic cricket summer.
Robbie Savage Premier League Breakfast Podcast
I’m not going to lie, Robbie Savage wasn’t my favourite player. Dirty so-and-so (it’s a family audience). The type of player you’d love if he played for your club and hate if he played for anyone else. As a Wolves fan, we never had the ‘pleasure’ of having Mr Savage in our team!
However, his Friday offering is the perfect starter to the footballing weekend. Whether it’s an appearance from Ryan Giggs, Michael Owen or anyone else who is in Robbie’s contacts book, a Fantasy League overview or the regular appearance from prediction queen Mrs Savage (Robbie’s mother), it’s a light-hearted, entertaining way to look ahead to the latest round of Premier League action.
The Darts Show Podcast
Here at 8848, we can’t get enough of the darts. A fun, fast-paced sport and a great night out thrown in – what’s not to like?
We were at Blackpool for the World Matchplay in July for part one of our activation of a hugely exciting PDC partnership programme with Selco Builders Warehouse and there’s plenty more to come – so look out for us! With some of the world’s top stars and television presenters and commentators featuring in this Sky Sports podcast, it most certainly hits the right double at the right time for darts fans.
