Leading Midlands law firm Higgs & Sons has been named Law Firm of the Year at the Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards.
The firm beat off stiff competition from fellow finalists Browne Jacobson, DLA Piper, Eversheds and HBJ Gateley Wareing in the 16 partners and above category.
Senior partner, Ian Shovlin, collected the award on behalf of the 180-strong firm. He said: “This is a wonderful achievement for the whole Higgs team.
“The last 12 months have been fantastic for Higgs & Sons. We marked our 135th year by creating the largest legal office in the Black Country with some of the very best facilities in the region. Our team increased with the addition of 14 new lawyers and nine support staff and we achieved record financial results in a very challenging legal and business market.
“This award from Birmingham Law Society is the icing on the cake, and will be celebrated by everyone in the firm.”
According to the judges, Higgs & Sons demonstrated a “commitment to excellence and a strong focus on people, both internal staff and external clients”.
Dean Parnell, president of Birmingham Law Society, said: “As always, the Law Firm of the Year (16 partners and above) was a fiercely competitive category this year.
“All of the finalists put in outstanding individual performances in the last 12 months, which any other year would have been worthy of the award.”
