Cancer charity boosted by retailer and rugby star

A Merthyr Tydfil retailer has boosted a cancer charity by raising £1,000 and celebrated the success with Welsh International rugby union star, Adam Jones.

Capitol Volkswagen raised the money for Breast Cancer Care Wales through its initiative, ‘Pink Friday’.

Every Friday the 15-strong team at the Volkswagen retailer wear pink and put £1 in a pot, which is boosted even further by passing customers.

The £1,000 cheque adds to the £1,000 total already raised by Capitol Volkswagen thanks to Pink Friday.

Capitol Volkswagen celebrated the Breast Cancer Care donation at the Pentrebach Road site’s launch of Volkswagen’s new Passat, when rugby star Adam Jones joined in the celebrations.

Area Manager,Jay Shepherd at Breast Cancer Care said: “Capitol Volkswagen’s fund raising efforts are simply amazing.

“We cannot thank Capitol Volkswagen enough. The donations will be used to support individuals diagnosed with cancer and promote the importance of early detection.”

Capitol Volkswagen’s brand manager, Gareth Cleverly said: “We are thrilled to have raised so much money for a worthy cause.

“Everybody at Capitol chose the Breast Cancer Care Wales charity and came up with the idea of ‘Pink Friday’, an idea that has been used by Breast Cancer Care since.

“With everybody putting a pound in every week the funds soon mount up and customers are intrigued when they see everybody wearing pink and often donate too.”
