Motor apprentice makes the grade

A young motor professional from Maidenhead has completed his technician apprenticeship with a local van centre.

Charlie Burton joined Cordwallis Volkswagen Van Centre, which has sites in Maidenhead and Heathrow, as an apprentice after leaving school.

After three years’ worth of hard work, the 20-year-old has now completed his training course to become a fully qualified Volkswagen technician.

During his apprenticeship, Charlie attended a series of workshops and assessments by the Volkswagen Training Academy.

He is now able to carry out diagnostic checks and engineering analysis on the entire range of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

Reflecting on his achievement, Charlie said: “I’ve always been interested in motor mechanics and I’m passionate about the Volkswagen brand. This qualification has given me further knowledge which I will apply to my day to day work.

“I’m really grateful to Cordwallis because they’ve shown faith in my ability and backed my ambitions by funding my training.”

Cordwallis’ service manager, Carlos Marques said: “Charlie has worked diligently throughout his apprenticeship and fully deserves to have reached technician status.

“He’ll now be able to work independently within the workshop, but will still receive elements of training in order for him to progress even further in his career.”

Charlie’s next challenge is to qualify as a master technician, a process that will take approximately six years.

Along with sites in Maidenhead and Heathrow, Cordwallis has a site in Oxford and supply the full range of both new and used Volkswagen commercial vehicles.
