Million pound business investment in Mackworth

Work has begun on the construction of a million pound van centre, to meet the growing demands of a Mackworth business.

Imperial Commercials, the UK’s largest independent commercial vehicle group, is developing part of its 17 acre site on Ashbourne Road to house a brand new purpose-built Volkswagen showroom and MOT centre.

The van and truck business, which has operated from the Mackworth site for over 50 years, introduced the Volkswagen range to its Fiat, MAN, DAF, HINO franchise portfolio in 2009.

The recent business investment is a direct response of the popularity of the Volkswagen brand.

The 550 square metre redevelopment will feature a five van display showroom and multi-purpose MOT facility and is due for completion in October as Imperial Commercials director, Matthew Lawrenson, explains.

He said: “Although it has be a challenging time for the motor industry we have seen great success in the Volkswagen brand. The new dedicated purpose built facility will help to strengthen our sales and service offer going forward.

“We consider ourselves as a one-stop-shop for commercial vehicles and this recent investment reinforces our commitment to the industry.”

The showroom design is a new concept from Germany and provides a light and airy interior with wide open spaces making it easier for customers to navigate and features a comfortable customer hospitality area. The MOT facility will have the capacity to take any commercial vehicles from a car-derived van to a 44-ton truck. The structural design has been undertaken by AJS structural design, and the construction is being completed by JJL Design & Build of Uttoxeter.

“We provide a multifaceted business and as the industry continues to develop so will Imperial Commercials,” concluded Matthew.
