Higgs continues to invest in law talent

One of the region’s leading law firms is welcoming a new assistant solicitor to its thriving employment team.

Higgs & Sons, the Law Society’s current Law Firm of the Year for 2011, has welcomed 29-year-old Sarah Cowen.

As assistant solicitor, Sarah will tackle a number of cases in contentious and non-contentious employment law, advising clients on matters such as recruitment, redundancy and unfair dismissal.

Speaking of her appointment, Sarah said: “I’m delighted to be joining Higgs.

“The firm has an excellent reputation and is the perfect place for my career to develop. I’m very much looking forward to helping my colleagues deal with our current and future cases.”

After graduating from the University of Birmingham in 2004, Sarah discovered her passion for employment law during a placement in HR at global accountancy practice Ernst & Young LLP. This led to Sarah undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Law at Birmingham City University from 2005 to 2007. Sarah secured a training contract at global commercial law firm DLA Piper, before joining a niche practice as an employment specialist on qualification.

Tim Jones, partner and head of employment at Higgs & Sons, said: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome Sarah to our team. She has the credentials and qualities needed to be a success here.

“She’s very much a team player and I’m confident that she’ll prosper in her new position.”
