Nice and fast game with pro golfer

Birmingham residents will get the chance to rub shoulders with celebrity golfer Bernard Gallacher this weekend thanks to Chiltern Railways.

The former Ryder Cup golfer will be at Touchwood Shopping Centre in Solihull this Saturday (17th September) to celebrate Chiltern Railways new Mainline service.

Bernard, one of the youngest golf players to represent Great Britain and Ireland in top tournament, the Ryder Cup, will be at the shopping centre from 10.30am, demonstrating golfing skills to shoppers on a professional golf simulator, where the public will be able to pick up top tips.

Chiltern Railways are “putting” it to train travellers that its recently launched nice and fast Mainline service has transformed train travel between Birmingham Moor Street and London Marylebone with services from Solihull now from just 1hr 22 minutes and Birmingham from just 90 minutes.

Like a fast and efficient golf swing Chiltern Railways’ new Mainline service provides travellers who are reliant on the expensive and inflexible tickets from Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International to Euston, with a fast, comfortable service and the ideal work environment for those wanting to work on the train.

Touchwood customers will also be able to try their hand at the sport and can take time out to relax on the green to take a breather from shopping.

Thomas Ableman, Director for Chiltern Railways commented: “We’re delighted to bring a golfing star to Solihull to celebrate the launch of Mainline and hope that shoppers pick up fast tips to improve their game.

“After our £250 million investment, the arrival of Mainline means that Solihull and Birmingham Moor Street stations are now the best way to get to London.  We’ve slashed journey times, simplified our pricing structure and improved the offer with free Wi-Fi, power points at every seat, laptop friendly tables and even an espresso bar on our silver trains.”
