Movember staff raise over £500 for charity

Staff from a Macclesfield business have raised over £500 for charity after enduring a month of itchiness for Movember.

The nine-strong team, from Gilbert Lawton Volkswagen, followed a nationwide trend by growing facial hair throughout November to raise money for research into prostate and testicular cancer.

All Movember participants start with a clean shaven face on 1st November and continue to grow their moustaches for the remainder of the month.

To celebrate their fundraising efforts, the car retailer arranged for all nine men to remove their moustaches in the showroom, where colleagues and customers were invited to watch and boost the final fund.

Reflecting on his staff’s Movember efforts, Gilbert Lawton Volkswagen’s brand manager, Nick Ashton, said: “The guys have done a terrific job and endured some itchiness and discomfort to raise money for this fantastic cause.

“Everybody at Gilbert Lawton Volkswagen has really got behind the guys and made donations to support the cause. It was quite a sight seeing nine grown men having a public shave in the showroom, but to raise the amount they have is just a fantastic.

“We send our heartfelt thanks to everybody who supported the Movember team.”

All nine members of staff have promised to regrow their moustaches for Movember 2012 and beat this year’s total.
