Suffolk teenager given exclusive apprenticeship

A young car enthusiast from Woolpit has embarked on a three-year training course with the aim of becoming the best in the business.

Alfie Harvey has been accepted by Barnards Volkswagen in Stowmarket as the latest recruit on the company’s technician apprenticeship scheme.

Over the next three years the Station Road East Volkswagen business will invest nearly £40,000 to train Alfie through to technician status.

As the 18-year old embarks on his first full time job since leaving school Alfie is looking forward to achieving his ambition of working in the automotive industry for a highly regarded brand.

Speaking of his new role Alfie, said: “This is the ideal job for me as I have always been interested in the mechanics of car and motorbikes.

“I feel lucky to have secured the apprenticeship position and I’m very grateful to Barnards Volkswagen for giving me this chance.”

Barnards Volkswagen brand manager, Gary Halestrap, said: “In the current economic climate, it’s important that local businesses give youngsters the opportunity to learn and develop a career.

“Alfie’s passion was evident from the beginning of the interview process and this  was one of the main reasons why he’s was given the place on the apprenticeship programme.

“He may only be 18, but we are confident Alfie will come through the next three years with flying colours.”
