Broughton woman running in memory of family

A young woman from Broughton is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for charity, in memory of family members.

Alice Bonnett is taking part in the Race for Life 10k run at Clumber Park, raising money for Cancer Research in memory of close family who have died from the disease.

The 23-year-old, who works as a service advisor at Volkswagen Van Centre (Scunthorpe), has received plenty of support from friends, family and colleagues, which she admits is spurring her on to run a quick time.

She said: “I’ve set my target at £250, but I hope to raise more, especially with the support I’ve already received.

“My colleagues have helped me when I’ve been doing training runs during my lunch break, even timing me to go faster.

“All the money raised will go to a cause very close to my heart.”

Chris Gravill, head of business at Volkswagen Van Centre (Scunthorpe), said: “Watching Alice’s dedication to her training regime for the Race for Life event is making us proud to call her a colleague.

“Everyone at Volkswagen Van Centre (Scunthorpe) is showing their support for Alice through sponsorship, cheering her on during training runs and some will be attending the event.”
