Doncaster Rovers has strengthened its special affiliation with the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy by being the first club to compete in the competition’s ‘Paint Pot Challenge’, an initiative designed to take fan and club engagement to the next level.
Designed to test the crossing accuracy of the most competent footballer, the challenge consisted of nine first-team Donny players, plus their manager Dean Saunders, attempting to chip a ball from the corner of the 18-yard-box into an inflatable paint pot on the edge of the six-yard-box.
To celebrate Johnstone’s Paint’s number one vinyl matt emulsion available in 16,000 shades, clubs participating in the ‘Paint Pot Challenge’ are going head-to-head to win £2,000 worth of Johnstone’s Paint product, with one point being awarded for attempts that hit the paint pot and ten points for attempts that are successfully chipped into the inflatable.
Clubs that finish in second and third place will receive £1,000 and £500 worth of Johnstone’s Paint product respectively.
From 10 attempts, Doncaster Rovers tallied up a total of 14 points in the first ever ‘Paint Pot Challenge’, with David Cotterill successfully chipping a perfect ball into the pot for 10 points.
Paul Farrell, sponsorship manager for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, is delighted that Doncaster Rovers was the first club to take on the challenge.
He said: “Everybody remembers that afternoon at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium where Doncaster Rovers clinched the first Johnstone’s Paint Trophy with a thrilling 3-2 win over Bristol Rovers.
“So we’re ecstatic that the first trophy holders were also the first to participate in our ‘Paint Pot Challenge’ and that they scored an impressive 14 points.”
