New appointments strengthen Higgs private client team

Law firm Higgs & Sons, which boasts one of the largest private client teams in the Midlands, is further strengthening the department with five new appointments.

Lisa Whitehouse and Janna Pugh have joined the Brierley Hill based firm as solicitors in the private client team along with new associate Kirsty McEwen and Kiren Rai who is a paralegal.

Joining the firm from Challinors, Lisa will cover the whole spectrum of private client work in particular wills, lasting powers of attorney and the administration of estates. She also has experience in Court of Protection work. Janna comes to the firm from Parkinson Wright bringing with her experience in planning for care home fees, claims for NHS continuing healthcare funding, powers of attorney and Court of Protection work, as well as wills and estates.

Kirsty, who qualified in 2002, specialises in charities and advising individuals and their families, particularly those with business interests, on tax, estate and succession planning. She comes to Higgs from George Green LLP, where she was joint head of private client, and will have a particular focus on Higgs’ charities, community and social enterprise unit. As a specialist charities lawyer who has spent many years advising the charities and not for profit/voluntary sector on all aspects of their operations, Kirsty has acted for many well-known and established charities and the Charity Commission. She regularly writes and speaks on issues affecting the sector.

Vicki Bennett has completed her training contract with Higgs and joins the department on qualifying as a solicitor. Kiren Rai completes the team, joining as a paralegal.

The private client team has recently achieved a tier one ranking in the respected Legal 500 guide to legal services. Peter Gosling, head of the team said: “We are extremely proud to be one of the largest and most experienced private client teams in the Midlands. The new experience that is now being brought to the team will only add to our offering for clients.”
