Twenty years service for Braintree businesswoman

An Essex businesswoman is celebrating two decades as part of the sales team in one of the region’s largest housebuilders having seen immeasurable changes during her 20 year career.

Alison Slote, from Braintree, began working for Persimmon Homes Essex as a shorthand secretary to the sales director and sales manager in 1992. She has seen many changes in the office during this time including the introduction of personal computers and mobile phones as well as the launch of the world wide web.

One thing that has remained constant throughout this time is Alison’s dedication to her job as she explains: “I never expected to be with the company this long, but they have been very good to me and I think I have been very lucky. My role has changed over the years to mirror the changes in the business but I still find it rewarding to know that the work I do plays its part in ensuring our customers have their dream home.

“It’s interesting now to look back at how things have changed in the office over the years, but it does make me feel old! It’s hard to imagine how we managed back in the early 90s before instant access to the Internet and email.”

Alison, who is married with two teenage sons, also celebrates her 20th wedding anniversary in 2013 and says her husband and family have been a great support to her during her time with Persimmon.

Having joined the company after being made redundant from her previous job at a builders’ merchant in Chelmsford, Alison’s current position of Sales Administrator involves responsibility for processing sales reservations and finalising customers’ individual requests for their home under the company’s Finishing Touches banner.

She adds: “Each home buyer has their own individual style and ideas and it is now possible to add different elements and finishes to reflect personal choices. I love bringing customers’ requests to life and its rewarding to know that they will be enjoying these elements in their homes for years to come.”

Sales director Norman Sharpe has worked with Alison for two years. He says “Alison is a valuable member of our sales team and her enthusiasm and approach to her work set an example to us all. We hope she will still be here in another 20 years.”

Persimmon Homes is currently marketing properties across the Essex region including Romford, Colchester, Braintree, Basildon, Stansted Mountfitchet and Saffron Walden as well as Bures in Suffolk.
