Wrexham youngster takes first steps on new career ladder

A young car enthusiast from Rhosnesni has embarked on an exclusive three-year training course with the aim of becoming the best in the business.

Mark Groom has been accepted by Wrexham Volkswagen, part of the family owned Swansway Group, to be the latest recruit on the company’s technician apprenticeship scheme.

Wrexham Volkswagen will invest in Mark over the next three years to train him through to technician status.

The 21-year-old has worked in various roles since leaving school, but has always been looking for an opportunity to develop his career within the motor industry.

“I’ve always wanted to have a great career and I’m going to grab this opportunity with both hands,” said Mark.

“To be offered this type of apprenticeship with a company like Wrexham Volkswagen is a dream come true and I’m sure the wait to start my career will be worth it.

“I want to reach the top level of my trade, a master technician and I know I’ve got to first work hard over the next three years to achieve this.”

Wrexham Volkswagen’s brand manager, Jane Hargreaves, said: “It’s important that local businesses give youngsters the opportunity to learn and develop a career in the motor industry and Swansway Group is very proud to be able to do this across its dealerships.

“The arrival of Mark reinforces our commitment to developing talent and ensuring high levels of customer service.

“His passion and technical know-how was one of the main reasons why we choose him for the apprenticeship programme and we are confident he will come through the next few years with flying colours.”
