VELOCITY WD-40 TEAM REMAIN ON THE WINNING TRAIL

Members of the Velocity WD-40 Team are rising to the challenge as the junior and youth summer cycling action hots up.

The nine-strong team, which is backed by WD-40 Multi-Use Product, made a blistering start to the 2013 season and have continued their storming run of success well in to the second quarter of the year.

Amongst the outstanding recent achievements was an exceptional display from Great Britain Olympic Development Squad member Matt Gibson during the National Junior Road Race Championships in Lazonby, just north of Penrith.

After forming part of an early breakaway, Matt remained at the forefront of the leading pack throughout and eventually finished in fourth place, just eight seconds adrift of winner Chris Lawless.

Both the junior and under-16 teams shone at the International Youth and Junior Tours on the Isle of Man.

An excellent time trial enabled Matt Gibson to claim the first day yellow jersey in the juniors class, while Andy Leigh was to secure a fourth place finish on general classification.

The under-16s completed a weekend to remember for the Velocity WD-40 Team by claiming the team prize as all of the riders clinched a top 20 finish.

Elsewhere, an eventful weekend in Belgium saw Matt Walls and Adam Hartley acquit themselves well against some of Europe’s leading youth riders.

Two days of gruelling action saw Matt secure second and eighth place finishes, as well as two sprint victories, while Adam also clinched an impressive top ten finish in the 60km race over 12 technically demanding laps on a circuit just east of Ghent.

The under-16s maintained their excellent form at the North West Youth Tour, finishing as the leading team in the five-stage race around Preston, Lancaster and Blackpool.

Individual highlights included Matt Walls claiming fourth spot in the 25-mile circuit race, while the Velocity WD-40 Team colours were regularly found at the head of the peleton as the coveted team prize was claimed for the second successive year against the best riders in the UK.

With Andy Leigh taking first place in the Batley Road Race in Yorkshire and Will Thomas finishing close behind in the chasing pack, the honours for the Velocity WD-40 Team continue to flood in.
