Watford women walk to raise fund for local hospice

A group of Watford businesswomen are taking on a 13-mile sponsored walk this month to raise vital funds for the Peace Hospice.

The 20 women, who all work at Citygate Volkswagen, will take part in the Starlight Walk on Saturday 22 June.

The walk takes place in the evening, starting at 9pm, and is a six or 13 mile route through Watford with entertainment including music, magic and fire juggling. The Watford Fire Fighters will also be on the route cheering and supporting the walkers.

Citygate Volkswagen will be the main sponsors for the water stops at the event and all funds raised from the walk will go to the Peace Hospice which cares for over 1,500 people with a life limiting illness from across South West Hertfordshire every year.

Emily Leigh-Dugmore, compliance manager at Citygate Volkswagen in Watford, said: “We work in a male dominated environment so when I mentioned the Starlight Walk to the ladies they were really keen to take on this challenge.

“The walk is a women only event with a girls’ night out feel to it, so it should be a bit of fun at the same time as raising valuable funds for a very worthwhile cause.

“We have retailers across South West Hertfordshire, which is the area that the Peace Hospice covers, so we know the vital work they do and this was very important to all our staff when choosing an event to support. We hope as many people as possible will sponsor us and come out to support on the day.”

Peter Watson, event manager at Peace Hospice, said: “I am delighted that Citygate Volkswagen has entered a team for the walk as well as being our water sponsors on the night.

“The Starlight Walk is a great opportunity for team building and I hope more businesses get involved and join us for a great girls’ night out.”

Over 1,300 women took part in the Starlight Walk last year raising nearly £180,000 for the Peace Hospice.
