Work starts to transform former airfield

The much anticipated transformation of the former airfield in Weston-super-Mare has now begun as Bristol based builder Persimmon Homes Severn Valley prepare to create a striking new development, which is to be called Haywood Village.

The new housing development is currently under way and will offer over 900 properties in the first phase, which will consist of homes that are suitable for everyone from first time buyers and growing families to those looking to down size.

The development will boast views of the Mendip Hills and is within reach of the main town, yet will still have easy access to the motorway and excellent rail connections from Weston-super-Mare station.

Work has begun on the infrastructure of the roads that will create the new entrance into Haywood Village and an information centre is due to open in the summer, with a sales centre and showhomes to follow later this year.

The creation of the new village will be a real boost to the local economy both in its creation as well as the regeneration and expansion of the nearby business park, which will be known as Loxton Business Park.  Marstons, Travelodge and North Somerset Enterprise Agency have already signed up and more will follow.

Sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, Nicola Reed said: “We are so pleased to be able to bring this exciting new village to fruition, it will be unlike any other development we have created in Weston-super-Mare before – it is a real return to traditional values and the homes will truly compliment the surrounding area.”
