Film crew moves in at Charles Church development

There was more than just builders working at a new housing development in Newcastle upon Tyne when a film production crew moved in to make a hit TV show.

Scenes for the popular ITV drama, Vera, were filmed at a development being built by Charles Church North East.

Brenda Blethyn reprised her role as the brilliantly perceptive D.C.I. Vera Stanhope alongside actor and film maker David Leon who returns as D.S. Joe Ashworth for four new episodes which will be aired next year.

A production crew of more than 60 people arrived at Greenside, in Newcastle Great Park, to spend one day filming scenes for episode 1 of the fourth series.

Greenside offers a stunning range of executive new homes at Newcastle Great Park which is fast becoming one of the most sought-after residential locations in the area. The contemporary homes include large five bedroom properties with design features including balconies, family room and studies.

Filming for the four episodes is due to end next month while the programme will be aired in 2014. However, Series Three of Vera is currently on our screens, attracting more than five million viewers when it airs on a Sunday night at 9pm on ITV.

Written by Paul Rutman, and based on the novel Harbour Street by Ann Cleeves, the opening episode of Series Four follows Vera and Joe as they investigate the mysterious death of pensioner Margaret Krukowksi on a busy Newcastle train at the height of rush hour.

Debbie Zaben, sales and marketing director at Charles Church North East, said: “It was a very exciting day for everyone when the film crew arrived at Greenside. It makes a change to see cameramen and actors working on the site rather than builders. It created a real buzz for everyone.

“Here at Charles Church we are always happy to embrace something a little different and it was great to welcome the film crew.”

Series Four sees the return of Scottish-born actor Jon Morrison (Nil By Mouth) as D.C Kenny Lockhart, Clare Calbraith (Downton Abbey) as D.C. Shep, Paul Ritter (Friday Night Dinner) as pathologist Billy Cartwright and Sonya Cassidy (The Paradise) as Celine Ashworth, Joe’s wife.
