Housing boost to local jobs market

Leading housebuilder Persimmon Homes has responded to increased demand for new housing in the West Midlands with a significant investment in its Wolverhampton-based team.

A number of new appointments and internal promotions has strengthened the company’s technical and sales departments, while construction apprenticeships and trainee opportunities are attracting new young people to enter the housing industry.

Tim Brickley, director in charge of Persimmon Homes West Midlands said: “We recently announced a national recruitment drive to encourage more than 100 trade apprentices to join the business and there is also a corresponding programme of new hires in technical, managerial and sales functions across the company.

“Here in the West Midlands, we are looking for apprentice bricklayers and carpenters and have already recruited three new sales trainees – Chris Walton, Katie Evans and Jesse Judson.

“We are currently operating nine sites across Shropshire and the West Midlands, under the Persimmon and Charles Church brands, with several more sites due to open later this year and early 2013.

“To support this growth regionally, we have increased the construction team with the appointment of three new site managers – Graham Campbell, Reuben Perry and Darren Mapp – along with the promotion of Tom Luzaic to contracts manager. We are also seeking trainee site managers and fork lift drivers.

“The planning and commercial teams have welcomed Richard Hodson as development planner and Elliot Price as graduate planner, Russell Griffin has been promoted to commercial manager and Rob Dunning-Dyke has joined us full time as a quantity surveyor. In July we added trainee quantity surveyors Nathan Coward and Maxwell Byrne.

“Our technical team is being boosted by architectural technician/designer Sabrina Thomas and we are currently seeking an assistant architectural technician.

“And following advertising earlier in the year, we have brought in six experienced sales professionals to improve our customer-facing service at developments.”
