Charles Church charity team smash Acorns fundraising target

A fundraising team from one of the Midlands’ most successful house builders has raised a massive £7,500 for a children’s hospice from just one event.

The team of nine staff from Charles Church South Midlands – including managing director Richard Oldroyd – raised the cash for Acorns Children’s Hospice by completing the Stratford Big 10K run in September.

The team had set themselves an initial target of £2,000 – but were amazed as the final total kept growing as big-hearted backers rallied around their cause in the weeks after the event.

Richard said raising the cash for Acorns – Charles Church’s nominated charity for the year – has had a profound effect on everybody at the company.

“Anybody who has seen the work which goes on at Acorns knows just what a fantastic job they do and just what a remarkable place it is. It is impossible not to be moved by both the courage and strength of the children and the levels of care shown by the amazing staff.

“Doing this event and seeing the sort of impact the money we have raised will have has certainly brought us closer together as a team. The vast majority of Acorns’ funding comes from public donations which makes it all the more pleasing to have raised nearly four times our original target.

“I cannot thank the people who have sponsored us enough, and I know the staff at Acorns are just as delighted as we are.”

Richard and colleagues Alison Reading, Joe Turner, Pete Walker, Fiona Breslin, Sue Farran, Vicky Norris, Richard Price and Amanda Rogers, completed the run on September 8.

The company is continuing to raise money for Acorns through a variety of different events for the remainder of the year.

Acorns Children’s Hospice offers a network of care and support to life-limited and life-threatened children and their families across the heart of England.

Acorns have three hospices, situated in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester as well as a Community Team that offer support to families in their homes. It costs £750 per day for each child’s care and Acorns relies on the community to fund over 70 per cent of its activities.

Elinor Eustace, corporate fundraising manager for Acorns, said: “We are always heartened by the commitment and enthusiasm demonstrated by our supporters. Without the efforts of organisations such as Charles Church we simply wouldn’t be able to raise the funds needed every year to run the hospices. On behalf of everyone at Acorns, I’d like to say a huge thank you.”

Charles Church has established an enviable reputation for building high-quality homes to suit all lifestyles in both rural and city centre locations.
