An expectant mum from Castleford enlisted celebrity social media support from the likes of model Nell McAndrew and TV ‘wheeler dealer’ Mike Brewer to help her win a brand new car.
After years of driving around in an old banger, Kimberley Trembath scooped an award-winning Volkswagen Take up! in a competition organised by Sytner Volkswagen Huddersfield and Real Radio Yorkshire.
The 27-year-old said: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out I had won. My old car was costing me a fortune in repairs and I was constantly topping up the oil because it leaked.
“I entered the Car Wars competition and when I was shortlisted my old car was covered with stickers encouraging people to vote for me to win the new up! We did anything we could to get noticed
“To try to get more votes, my family and friends helped me with a Twitter and Facebook campaign. We got people like Nell McAndrew and the guys from Wheeler Dealers to retweet the link for voting and we created videos to go online – we even did the Harlem Shake!”
Adrian Waring, brand manager at Sytner Volkswagen Huddersfield, said: “Hundreds of entrants were whittled down to ten finalists, who battled it out to get the most votes to win themselves the new car.
“We were delighted to present Kimberley with the Take up! car. With a new baby on the way, she really needs a reliable and economical vehicle and – with its anti-lock brakes, air bags and Isofix child seat fittings – it’s sure to be the perfect motor for a new mum.”
Kimberley added: “I love the new car, it’s amazing. I never had a new car before and it is so different. I’m already saving money because I don’t have to keep topping up the oil and it uses a lot less fuel.
“I was glad to send the old car for scrap, and donated the money I got from it to charity.”
The award-winning up! from Volkswagen is the What Car? Best City Car 2013 and in 2012 was also crowned the What Car? Car of the Year and Top Gear’s small car of the year.
The economical Take up! model is available from just £8,185 and costs just £20 in road tax.
