Top of the class in housebuilder health and safety

Aim of the campaign:

Tasked with conveying Persimmon Homes’ corporate social responsibility strategy, we implemented a community engagement campaign to underpin the company’s health and safety credentials

How we activated our ideas:

We worked on a regional basis to demonstrate how good practice is being delivered on live building sites throughout the UK by engaging with local communities and educate young people about the dangers of a live construction site.

A planned series of case studies included:

Local primary school pupils were invited to visit the Edwin Mews development in Hornchurch as a practical addition to their House and Homes national curriculum topic. Pupils were given a tour and taught about workers wearing hard hats, high vis jackets and safety gloves, enabling them to identify the importance of health and safety on site.

At Lawley Village – a major sustainable community under construction in the West Midlands – we worked alongside Telford and Wrekin Council to issue hundreds of reflective armbands to every child at the local primary school so they could be safe and seen when walking or cycling to school as part of a ‘Safe Routes to School’ initiative.

In Surrey we launched a competition for local youngsters to design a creative and informative health and safety poster for Hoskins Court to promote best practice on a working development and get the community talking about how to be safe on site.

Coverage highlights:

Regular regional print, online and broadcast coverage maintains Persimmon’s reputation as a considerate builder, with many of the articles including key corporate messages such as NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award successes.
