Carmarthenshire girl in starring role

A youngster from Carmarthenshire has become a star of the small screen after appearing in a national education film to highlight a new Welsh Government scheme.

The film, (click here to watch) commissioned by housebuilders Persimmon Homes, features ten-year-old Holly Robinson from Burry Port. She introduces the new Help To Buy equity loan scheme launched in Wales last month, and advises homebuyers how it can help them.

In the film Holly, who attends Pembrey CP Primary School, poses as a Persimmon Homes Sales Advisor and is joined by other local children posing as Persimmon Homes staff and potential homebuyers.

The Government-backed Help To Buy scheme will make mortgages more readily available to those who cannot afford a large deposit and, with Persimmon Homes unveiling plans to open fourteen new sites across South Wales this year, it is hoped the film will educate homebuyers on what help is available.

Sharon Robinson, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes Wales, said: “The Help To Buy scheme will be a major boost to homebuyers in Wales and will significantly reduce their initial buying costs, but sometimes it can be a little tricky to understand the ins and outs of the scheme.

“We wanted to create an entertaining video and easy to use guide that highlighted the new scheme to our customers and was also fun to watch.

“The main aim was to encourage people to take advantage of the new scheme and to emphasise that Help To Buy is available to everyone, including first time buyers who can buy their first home sooner than they thought, and existing homeowners looking to trade up to a bigger property.

“Using Holly to present the video and local children as extras really brought the film to life and made what can be a rather dry subject much more enjoyable.”

With the new Help To Buy Wales scheme, buyers of new build homes under £300,000, with a 5 per cent deposit, can apply for a 20% interest free government loan to help with the cost, meaning they only need a 75% mortgage. It mirrors a similar scheme that has been available in England since April 2013.
