Volkswagen fuels racing dream

A Bury St Edmund’s business has gone the extra mile after confirming its sponsorship of a motor racing talent for a fifth season.

Volkswagen Bury St Edmunds has announced that their support is set to continue throughout 2014 for the flourishing British Formula 3 driver, Rupert Svendsen-Cook.

The 23-year-old’s racing career is going from strength to strength and he has recently been signed as a full time driver for JA Motorsport and MRF Tyres in India.

Rupert, born and bred in Bury St Edmunds, enthused: “I’m ecstatic that JA Motorsport and MRF Tyres have signed me up, I spent a lot of last year as a test driver for them so they must have been impressed with my development.”

2013 was an extremely busy year for the driving star but he says he will always appreciate the support he gets from Volkswagen in his home town.

“I cannot express how grateful I am to have the backing of a respected local business like Volkswagen Bury St Edmunds.

“Having their support over the past four years has been invaluable to my racing career and I am very proud to promote the retailers name not only in my local area, but also on an international footing.”

“The past year has been eventful! I launched the Rupert Svendsen-Cook Performance initiative, through which I worked with promising young drivers across UK, Europe, India, China and Macau. I was selected to be the UK Motorsports Association Academy coach and I even competed at Silverstone in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, in which I finished in 3rd place on my debut.”

Rupert has already made a significant impact on the racing season after successfully winning four out of nine races in the Formula MRF Challenge 2013/14, including a victory at the Indian Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend.

Robert Rolfe, Volkswagen Bury St Edmunds’ brand manager, said: “We are very excited to see Rupert’s career blossom and feel very proud to support him in his racing endeavours for another year.”

“We look forward to seeing him continue to build his profile in the racing arena.”
