Aston villa legends kick off for charity

Leading West Midlands cause, Beacon Centre for the Blind, is inviting local people to a charity football match against the Aston Villa Old Stars on Sunday, 18 May being held to raise vital funds.

The match will be part of a fun day with entertainment for the whole family, including a bouncy castle, face-painting and much more – the event kicks off at 1.30pm at Hednesford Town Football Club, in Staffordshire.

Some of the biggest names in the recent history of Aston Villa will line up against a team of the charity’s supporters for the match and all proceeds from the day will go towards helping visually impaired people in the local community.

Tickets cost £5 for adults, £2 for children and £12 for a family and can be purchased from Hednesford Town FC box office, the Beacon Centre charity shop in Cannock and at the main centre in Sedgley.

“We’re looking forward to seeing some very famous faces out on the pitch on the day but we’re keeping the names under wraps for now!” said Jo Field, from the Beacon Centre.

“The match and family fun day is sure to be a fantastic event for the whole family and we hope to raise a substantial amount of money to help people with sight loss across the community, but hurry if you fancy coming along as tickets are selling very fast.”

The charity has joined forces with two local businesses to help make the event happen, including Barratt Homes West Midlands, who have sponsored the team kit, and National Express who have provided a coach to take people to and from the event.

Jo continues: “It’s fantastic that local organisations are supporting us with this event and I’m extremely grateful to National Express and Barratt Homes West Midlands for their generous help.

“Every penny raised from the match and fun day will help us to support local people with sight loss live fuller and more independent lives – we very much look forward to seeing you there.”

For those attending the match day, a coach will be leaving the Beacon Centre site in Sedgley on Wolverhampton Road East; to reserve a space email fundraising@beacon4blind.co.uk
