A leading Blackpool motor dealership is celebrating its most successful March new car registrations for five years.
Lookers Volkswagen Blackpool, on Ashworth Road, recorded the highest new car sales since 2009, reflecting a national trend which saw a 17.7 per cent rise in registrations.
The company’s brand manager, David Bailiss, said: “This has been our busiest March since the economic downturn and we are delighted to have exceeded our sales targets, with 94 happy customers driving away in their new ‘14’ plate cars.
“The fantastic Volkswagen Golf and Polo continue to be the most popular models, with our larger lifestyle models – the Touran, Touareg and Tiguan – also doing well, and lots of interest in the up! for its fuel economy and practical town car size.
“But it is not just new cars – our Approved Used selection is also proving popular with local buyers and our service department is busier than ever. Overall it is great news for the car industry and terrific for our business, which employs 35 people at Blackpool.
“We are really proud of the figures, which indicate an increase in customer confidence locally. We see this as a sign of sustained economic growth in our region.”
Nationally, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reported 464,824 new car registrations in March, saying that sales were rising at the fastest pace for a decade.
March typically accounts for almost a fifth of all car sales annually.
