Development could be one of the ‘happiest’ places to live

A development near Taunton could be one of the ‘happiest’ places to live in the UK according to a new survey.

Taunton came third in the latest Happy at Home index after residents were asked to rate their local area on 12 distinct factors. Nearly 50,000 people responded to Rightmove’s survey, which combined the results to give an ‘overall’ happiness score for more than 100 places across the country.

Harrogate topped the poll with Inverness second, with all the locations beings rated on such things as value, wellbeing, amenities, safety and contentment.

Persimmon Homes South West is building a stunning development at Heathfield Gardens, in Monkton Heathfield, on the edge of the Taunton. The development, in Hardys Road, offers several different house styles to suit everyone, from two-bedroom coach-houses to three, four and five-bedroom properties.

Nina Hester, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes South West, said: “Taunton has always proved popular with buyers as the town has such a lot to offer.

“It is no surprise that it is one of the happiest places to live in the country. Somerset certainly ticks all the boxes as a great place to be, not just for the stunning scenery, facilities and friendly people but also for its great commuter links with the rest of the country. It does offer the best of both worlds.”

Taunton has numerous public parks, of which the most notable is the historic Vivary Park; home of the popular Taunton Flower Show. The park also boasts great attractions for the family including miniature golf, tennis courts, children’s play area and even a model railway.

The town has a great selection of shops and places to eat as well as excellent sporting facilities, including the county cricket ground, football and rugby clubs and a racecourse.

Heathfield Gardens has proved very popular with a wide cross-section of people from first-time buyers to growing families, downsizers and investors.

Nina added: “A great community feel is developing at Heathfield Gardens and with such great facilities right on your doorstep there is plenty to be happy about, plus it has never been easier to buy with schemes such as Help to Buy.”

Under the Government-backed shared equity scheme, buyers only need a 5% deposit and are eligible for a 20% loan on the term of a mortgage, which is interest and repayment free for the first five years.

Nina added: “Home Change is also available and, if you are eligible, we arrange at least two valuations, agree a market price and use our expertise to help sell your existing property, with all estate agency fees paid.  Help to Buy is also available with Home Change. We can also Part Exchange as we aim to take away the stress of selling your own home.”
