MD back in the saddle for children’s charity

The managing director of a leading West Midlands motor business is getting back in the saddle for his third – and final – charity bike ride.

Andrew Hockedy, 52, MD of Trust Group UK with Volkswagen dealerships in Wolverhampton, Stourbridge and Redditch, is set to take part in a sponsored London to Paris Bike Ride next month.

Raising funds for Action Medical Research, a national charity that saves and changes the lives of children through medical research, Andrew has set himself a target of £1600.

That will see him push his personal fundraising beyond the £7,000 mark for his ‘Hockedy Trilogy’.  Previously, he raised a combined total of more than £5,400 by cycling the inaugural Warwick 100 and completing an epic Lands End to John O’Groats ride.

Andrew said: “My third and final ride is London to Paris and although under 300 miles it is still a challenge.

“With four days to complete it in and a mass finish under the Arc de Triomphe I am looking forward to testing myself again as well as raising vital funds for this great charity that really does put the money to such positive good use.”

The organised ride sets off from London on July 23, and to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the start of the First World War, the route will take in a number of battle sites and cemeteries including Arras and the River Somme.

Andrew aims to keep his supporters entertained throughout the four day event with regular updates and blogs.

He added: “Right now the best medical minds in children’s hospitals and universities across the UK are waiting for the green light to start research that could lead to life-changing treatments for babies and children. They just need the funding. I sincerely hope that this challenge will go some way towards helping Action Medical Research.”
