THREE PEAKS CHALLENGE FOR COMPTON HOSPICE

A group of Wolverhampton friends who completed the Three Peaks Challenge are set to smash the fundraising target they set themselves for Compton Hospice.

The nine walkers successfully scaled Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in less than 24 hours over the weekend of June 21 – the longest day – and are poised to break through their £4,000 target.

One of the team, Richard Powell from Sedgley, said: “It was a fantastic experience and we all felt quite elated when we finished.

“The challenge was almost a year in the planning and its success is down to so many more people than the nine of us who did the walking!

“Thanks must go to our driver and navigator, a local school in Sedgley for the loan of the minibus and Wolverhampton Volkswagen for funding our fuel, along with everyone who sponsored us.”

When dad Fred took Richard’s sponsorship form into Volkswagen’s Bilston Road dealership to ask his colleagues to pledge their support, managing director Andrew Hockedy made the generous offer to pay for all the fuel throughout the challenge – more than 1,000 miles worth.

Richard added: “Everyone has been so incredibly generous, but I think that’s because we chose such an amazing local cause.

“All of us are from in and around Wolverhampton, and we all know someone who has been helped in some way by Compton Hospice and the fantastic work they do there.”

Richard was joined on the adventure by Robert Atkinson, Darrell Parton, Adam Hall, Richard Swan, Wayne Harrison, Stuart Stanway, Dan Parton, Chris Perrins, Simon Jones and James Purshouse.

There’s still time to sponsor Richard and his team mates, and raise much needed funds for Compton Hospice. Just visit the fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/Richard-Powell-1138/
