The winner of a competition looking for the owner of the oldest Volkswagen in Wigan celebrated the day in style at the opening of a £1million state-of-the-art showroom.
Karen Brown’s 1969 Beetle, Rocky, won the top prize and was given pride of place in the showroom at the grand opening event in June.
As well as having a winning car, Karen also won the chance to try out a high-performance Volkswagen for a couple of days.
The competition was held by Corkills Volkswagen in Wigan to celebrate the launch of its brand new £1million showroom in Wallgate, Wigan.
Karen, who had Rocky transported to her from nearly 300 miles away in Folkestone, said: “The day out was fantastic. I had lots of fun, everyone was really lovely, and they made Rocky look stunning on display.
“As part of the prize, I also get to drive a Golf Cabriolet for a couple of days next week in York with my friends so I’m definitely looking forward to that.
“I’ve had a couple of Volkswagens now and I find them really fun to drive. The reliability you get with a Volkswagen is one of the reasons I wanted the Beetle.”
The competition to find Wigan’s oldest Volkswagen was part of the celebration of the company’s recent redevelopment which provides a laid back setting in which customers can view the ever increasing array of Volkswagen cars.
In addition to Rocky’s display, the event proved to be a celebration to remember with a whole host of entertainment and activities including a pianist and caricaturist Christopher Murphy, an F1 simulator, a giant scalextric and the chance to crack the safe and win a brand new Volkswagen Up.
