Persimmon site in Hatfield receives LABC plaudit

A Persimmon Homes development in Hatfield has received national recognition for excellence in construction.

Prince’s Gate, located on Mount Pleasant Lane, has won the LABC Warranty award for Development of the Year (51+ units) at The Bricks 2014. The annual awards scheme recognises and rewards the work of developers who deliver high quality construction and design.

LABC Warranty works in partnership with Local Authority Building Control (LABC) to provide a comprehensive range of structural warranties. Prince’s Gate has been inspected by LABC officers since construction started last autumn to ensure the highest quality of build.

Persimmon Homes North London build manager Jim Lyon said: “Prince’s Gate has been hugely popular since the first homes were released for sale back in December last year. The site exceeded all expectations with properties selling off plan early. With such high demand, construction on site has had to keep apace but quality build has always been a priority and a focus.

“It’s rewarding to receive accolades such as The Bricks, as they are independently assessed and offer recognition for the hard work and commitment put in by everyone on site. The whole team here at Prince’s Gate should be proud of what we have achieved.”

Assistant site manager Neil Roe and colleague Victoria Frith, who was involved in gaining planning permission for the site, attended the awards ceremony in London to receive the accolade from TV star, Hugh Dennis.

Mike Swatton, LABC Warranty business development director and head judge commented: “The quality standard of the nominees across the board has been unprecedented, once again raising the bar for next year.”

Organisers say as the awards have developed, LABC Warranty has seen build standards improve, despite challenges facing the construction industry. With over 2,500 sites eligible at the start of the competition, it is an achievement to have been shortlisted to the finals where just 12 winners were selected.

In May 2014, Mark Ablett, site manager at Prince’s Gate, was named the winner of the LABC Warranty Regional Site Manager Award 2014 in the Central Region.

There are currently eight apartments released for sale at Prince’s Gate. The two bedroom properties feature an en-suite to the master bedroom and also include a parking space. With prices starting from £232,950 they are ideal starter homes or investments and with the Government-backed Help to Buy scheme, are available with a deposit of just five per cent. A mortgage is required on 75% of the property’s value and an equity loan is secured on the remaining 20%, which is interest and repayment free for the first five years.
