A LIFESTYLE CHANGE IN A SUMMERHOUSE

Thrapston, Northamptonshire May 2015: A long-standing collaboration with lifestyle designer Katie Alice has led to an exclusive Scotts of Thrapston summerhouse to be launched at the Chelsea Flower Show on stand WA12. Katie has worked with Scotts styling the company’s summerhouses at events and shows. This year Katie returns to the show alongside The Katie Alice Summerhouse.

The Katie Alice Summerhouse

More than just a timber building to be placed in a corner of a garden, Katie has ensured that the newest design in the Scotts of Thrapston range provides the perfect blank canvas for creating a truly unique and inspirational haven.

Katie explains: “My vision for the Katie Alice summerhouse was to create a space that would inspire and motivate. I believe this summerhouse can be the perfect getaway for partaking in a hobby, the ideal location for encouraging productivity and, most importantly, a beautiful backdrop for alfresco entertaining.”

“My background is in styling and tableware design and I’ve worked with Scotts to incorporate some of my ranges into their summerhouses on show stands. It’s been really exciting to be involved in a project like this where I have been able to see the concept right through to the finished product on the stand at Chelsea.”

Blank Canvas

The light and airy three metre summerhouse is supplied with a unique lilac exterior and cream interior finish and has a high ceiling creating a feeling of space and light. Decorative antique leaded casement windows and lockable doors are provided with safety glass and a natural cedar shingle roof is finished with an attractive copper finial.

A square panel window at the rear of the building serves as both a decorative feature and also lets in more light. Inside, narrow ledges create perfect sized shelves for trinkets, frames, mirrors and vases and the hand-forged door and window fixtures and fittings add welcome rustic charm.

Katie adds: “It’s been proven that fresh air improves concentration and that nature can be a huge inspiration. I have found that working in my summerhouse gives me an instant sense of creativity and the thought of spending the day working inside makes me look forward to work that little bit more.”

Katie Alice’s tips for styling your summerhouse:

–      Think handmade and homemade – fill your space with your own masterpieces or trawl craft fairs and online marketplaces to find individual pieces that inspire you

–      Use plants and flowers to bring nature inside

–      Opt for vintage finds to make your space truly unique – vintage auctions, second hand shops and online auction sites can be great treasure troves

–      Mix your textures – use different fabrics, textiles, papers, wool, jute, etc. Rugs can also make a huge difference and instantly create a homely feel

–      For alfresco entertaining use the summerhouse as a sheltered outdoor dining area – it has plenty of room to fit a round table inside.

David Scott, chairman and third generation Scotts family member commented: “The Katie Alice summerhouse is a welcome addition to our range. Katie’s involvement at our events over the years has enabled visitors to our stands to visualise how they can make a summerhouse work in their garden and how they can be decorated to great effect.”

“We’ve now taken that a step further with the Katie Alice summerhouse and look forward to hearing what the Chelsea show-goers think of this beautiful design.”
