Persimmon pledges Kingsbridge school improvements

A leading house builder has pledged to contribute significantly towards much-needed primary school improvement in Swansea aligned with the 21st Century school programme across the county – if its plans for new houses in Kingsbridge are given the go-ahead.

Persimmon Homes West Wales will deliver a primary school building in Kingsbridge, if councillors give the green light to its proposed Bryngwyn Fields development, to the north of Garden Village.

The scheme would be made up of 750 houses and built over seven years – but Persimmon has vowed the school delivery would be provided in early phases of the development for the benefit of the community.

Persimmon Homes plans to continue to promote the scheme via the emerging Local Development Plan and will also be submitting an outline planning application alongside this process in due course.

Huw Llewellyn, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “There is a real need to ensure the future housing proposals across Swansea address the future education requirements in Swansea and this new state-of-the-art building would go a long way to addressing that.

“This would be a high quality facility which would extend the provision of education in Kingsbridge

“We are proud to be part of the community in Swansea and West Wales as a whole, bringing real, tangible benefits to the people who live here, as well as new, affordable housing.”

The development as a whole would create in the region of 2,000 jobs.

Persimmon Homes recently consulted the public over its plans, with plans now being finalised to reflect feedback from the comments received.

The plans include for provision of a school positioned centrally within the development to allow easy access between both the existing and future residents of the area.

Green open space to the immediate north of the existing Garden Village is also a key component of the plans, together with significant retained and managed ecology and wildlife areas and improved pedestrian linkages to Gorseinon town centre.

Mr Llewellyn added: “This is an exciting new development for Kingsbridge which seeks to meet the need for new homes in the area in a sustainable location close to Gorseinon district centre.”
