Celebrating International Women’s Day with Google Doodle

March 8 marks International Women’s Day, a time to celebrate and honour the achievements of women, past and present, and this year Google has marked the occasion with a special doodle celebrating ‘women of the future’.

Over the years Google has celebrated the occasion with a ‘Google Doodle’, switching the logo to honour the achievements of women who have changed the course of history. However this year the internet search giant has released a short video saluting the aspirations of women across the globe.

The short film, which was shot in 13 cities, asks women to finish the statement, ‘one day I will…’, speaking with 337 women and girls, capturing their dreams from playing in the Major League to seeing that every girl has an education. The doodle even features cameos from Nobel Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai and activist Muzoon Almellehan.

As each woman tells of her aspirations animations appear around them, bringing their dreams to life on screen. Talking in their native tongue, the doodles act as a universal language to be seen in the same way.

Watching the video we get the sense that this is more a reflection of the goals of International Women’s Day rather than a celebration of past and present achievements from inspirational women, inspiring women to achieve their dreams and goals.

Viewers are also encouraged to share their own aspirations on social media, with the hashtag #OneDayIWill

To all the women, we wish you a Happy Women’s Day!
