Leading housebuilder launches Cornwall business

Hundreds of jobs are set to be created in Cornwall after the UK’s leading house builder opened a new business in the county.

Persimmon Homes has launched its 28th business in Britain, with its new Cornish headquarters in Launceston.

The establishment of this business will bring new houses to towns where they are needed, said Director in Charge Daniel Heathcote.

Approximately 2.4 jobs are created for every house that is built in a wide range of roles, including every aspect of construction, planning, sales and marketing.

Mr Heathcote said: “We are delighted to have launched Persimmon Homes Cornwall, which represents a significant economic boost to the county.

“We have already made a number of appointments and still have positions to fill. Our focus will be on bringing in energetic, enthusiastic, local people with good knowledge of what Cornwall needs and requires.

“Furthermore, there will be genuine benefits for the communities in which we work. This includes significant contributions towards education, new roads and healthcare to name but a few.”

A full range of jobs can be found at www.persimmonjobs.com

Persimmon Homes has been active in Cornwall for many years, operating as Persimmon Homes South West.

Persimmon Homes South West will continue to operate in Devon and parts of Dorset and Somerset, while Persimmon Homes Cornwall will focus on Cornwall and Plymouth.

Currently the company has houses for sale at The Goldings, Newquay, and Trevethan Meadows, Liskeard, with plans this year to move into Truro and Falmouth. The business is also reviewing other investment opportunities and as it looks to grow the new region further.

There are also currently houses for sale in Palmerston Heights in Derriford and Saltram Meadow in Plymouth.

Charities and community groups in Cornwall will be able to benefit from the housebuilder’s Community Champions scheme. Persimmon Homes Cornwall has £24,000 set aside to hand out over the next 12 months.

Each month the business will select two charities in the county to receive up to £1,000 each. Applications can be made by visiting www.persimmonhomes.com/charity

Mr Heathcote said: “We are very proud of our Community Champions scheme, which has already helped hundreds of good causes across the UK.

“I know there are many, many good causes in Cornwall and I look forward to looking through all of the applications each month. And if you’re not successful the first time, don’t worry – there is no reason why you cannot apply the following month.”
