A successful, sell-out quiz has helped a Midlands law firm smash its previous record annual fundraising total.

The Higgs & Sons Charity Quiz returned to Molineux last Thursday when 60 teams from across the Midlands raised £5,433 for the Stroke Association, the law firm’s charity of the year.

The year’s record-breaking running total for the charity has now reached £17,000, with some events still to take place.

The annual quiz is a highlight in the Higgs calendar. Teams made up of Higgs’ clients, professional contacts, suppliers and colleagues from across the Midlands, gathered at the WV1 restaurant at Molineux stadium to test their general knowledge under the scrutiny of quizmaster and Practice Director John Smith.

Winners on the night, eight points clear of the field, was the team from Merito Financial Services Ltd.

Higgs & Sons’ Managing Partner Paul Hunt said: “It was fantastic to see so many new faces taking part at our annual quiz, alongside those people who have supported us right from the beginning.

“Thanks to the generous support of everyone who attended we raised almost £5,500 for the Stroke Association, and that took us past last year’s fundraising total.”

Events held throughout the year have included runs, dress down days, bake offs, a fun day and the annual Higgs 6-a-side football tournament.

Louise Lawless, Community & Events Fundraising Manager for the Stroke Association, said: “Thank you to everyone who attended the quiz and helped us raise so much money for the Stroke Association – we hope everyone had a brilliant time.

“We are the only charity working exclusively with people affected by strokes and our work depends so much on donations and fundraising. Higgs & Sons have gone above and beyond for us this year and we can’t thank them enough for nominating us as their charity of the year.”

Each year Higgs & Sons’ Community programme supports a range of projects on behalf of its chosen charity of the year. Last year’s total of £15,000 raised on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association was a record for the Midlands based law firm.
