Uponor steps up training focus

Six years after the opening of its dedicated training academy, Uponor has stepped up its investment in installers with the introduction of a plumbing showroom, the launch of a new training complex in Belfast and the supply of materials to two regional education facilities.

Offering bespoke plumbing and underfloor heating courses, the original Uponor Training Academy – housed within the company’s distribution centre and head office in Lutterworth – welcomes more than 300 delegates a year.

It provides customers with theoretical and practical knowledge of Uponor’s underfloor heating systems, as well as the brand’s extensive family of plumbing solutions.

Uponor’s offerings and markets manager, Chris Greaves, explains the company’s commitment to training and how the Training Academy has evolved.

“Training has always been an important focus for Uponor. All of our courses are very popular and by completing the training, customers can get the full benefits of our product range, allowing them to offer added value to their customers.

“The new plumbing suite within the Training Academy demonstrates Uponor’s range of plumbing applications and gives delegates the opportunity to see for themselves how quick and easy it is to make safe and secure plumbing joints.”

In addition to the improvements at the Lutterworth Training Academy, Uponor has also launched a Belfast Training Centre.

Business development manager, Warren Smyth, said the new facility located at Taylor Heating & Plumbing in Belfast demonstrates the company’s commitment to the market in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

He said: “The courses on offer mirror those offered at the original Lutterworth Training Academy, starting with comprehensive installer training, moving through to design and control-orientated courses. However, bespoke workshops can also be created to meet customers’ individual needs.

“The training centre has already hosted its first two-day installer course, with another three scheduled for this year. The installers who attended our first course were delighted with the expert training they received and we are looking forward to building on that success.”

Two UK regional training facilities have also benefitted from Uponor support. Bristol’s Filton College and Sevenoaks Energy Academy in Kent have both been kitted out with Uponor’s family of plumbing and climate control solutions.

Filton College now offers a comprehensive selection of Uponor products including plumbing fittings, multi layer composite pipe (MLCP) and PEX, as well as underfloor heating installations.

The suite at the college will serve to host Uponor-led customer training sessions as well as being open to the college students themselves.

Sevenoaks Energy Academy, a specialist training centre delivering courses within various areas of the energy sector, also features plumbing and underfloor heating solutions from Uponor but also houses a specific heat pump and climate control installation.

Chris Greaves concludes; “More than 10,000 professionals worldwide attend Uponor seminars, gaining hands-on product, design and installation instruction.

“It is important that our customers are confident in our product range and training is an important part of that. We will continue to invest in training and provide more opportunities for installers to discover the merits of Uponor’s plumbing and climate control solutions.”
