MAN calls up World Cup legend for Wembley date

Limited edition trucks line-up with Sir Geoff Hurst for celebration event

Customers lucky enough to have scored one of the 66 Legends Edition MAN vehicles enjoyed a drive-away luncheon in the company of 1966 World Cup hero Sir Geoff Hurst.

They witnessed the spectacle of a range of the limited edition trucks lined up in front of Wembley’s iconic arches before attending a celebratory lunch in the company of Sir Geoff and MAN’s top executives.

September sees the registration number on all motor vehicles change from 16 to 66 and Simon Elliott, football fan and MAN Truck & Bus UK managing director, seized the opportunity to work with 1966 World Cup goal-scoring legend Sir Geoff, to create the limited edition vehicles.

Simon said “This year is the 50th anniversary of England winning the World Cup against Germany in 1966 and it seemed like an unusual and innovative way of celebrating that.

“There has been a tremendous response to our 66 Legends Edition, so great in fact that we sold some to customers in Wales and Scotland!

“It is a fantastic sight to see them all lined up and ready for the big drive-away.

“It was also a great honour to work with Sir Geoff on this project. He came to our Swindon office to launch the vehicles and at Wembley has personally handed over the trucks to every customer who bought one.”

Sir Geoff said: “This is a fun initiative and shows that even though our win was 50 years ago it is still being celebrated today. MAN has been innovative with the 66 Legends Edition and it has been a great pleasure to meet the customers who bought them and to talk trucks and football with them.”

The vehicles feature a special door badge, personalized 66 registration plate, unique 66 logo dashboard mat and every truck also comes with a framed replica England football shirt signed by Sir Geoff as a gift from MAN Truck & Bus UK.
