Cotswolds man raises thousands in charity cycle ride

A Cotswolds man has raised thousands of pounds for charity after riding the length of the UK.

Simon Kay from Chippenham cycled from Lands End to John O’ Groats covering an amazing 885 miles, raising £3,640 for Diabetes UK.

The 37-year old sales executive at Northfield Volkswagen, completed the journey in seven days, during which he burned over 27,000 calories, twice the normal daily amount.

The total raised includes a significant donation from his employers and colleagues at Northfield Volkswagen in Cirencester.

Simon said: “It was certainly a challenging bike ride, but raising money for such a worthy cause in Diabetes UK, and having a chance to explore the wonderful country which we live in, made it extremely worth it.

“I am so grateful for everybody’s support, it has been a great motivation to know that so many people are behind me to help me raise money for such a worthy cause.

“My colleagues at Northfield Volkswagen have been brilliant in supporting me, spurring me on during my training regime, particularly during the dark days of winter, and also donating over £500.”

Simon is now taking a well earned rest before he contemplates his next cycling adventure.

Northfield Volkswagen’s brand manager, Mark Foulston, said: “Simon is an inspiration to all of us with the way he’s raised so much money for Diabetes UK.

“Everyone at the retailer is delighted he completed the ride and proud to have him as a colleague.”
