Van Centre breaks boundary for local cricket club

A Derby van centre has given a boost to its local cricket club by agreeing a one-year shirt sponsorship deal.

Imperial Commercials, a Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles dealership, has provided 75 shirts to Belper Meadow Cricket Club.

The shirts, which bear the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ logo, will be worn by all junior teams from the under-11’s to the under-17’s.

It’s the first sponsorship deal in the cricket club’s 131-year history and according to its junior co-ordinator, Mark Slater, the deal is a just reward for the important grass roots development work they do.

He said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have secured a sponsorship deal with Imperial Commercials, it’s given everybody at the club a boost.

“We dedicate a lot of time to ensuring youngsters of all ages and ability have the opportunity to enjoy the game of cricket, so it’s fantastic to have the support of our local Volkswagen Van Centre.”

The club offers semi-professional level 3 cricket coaching to its junior groups every Thursday evening at its Christchurch Meadows ground in Belper.

Focus is placed upon giving youngsters a basic knowledge of the game, while ensuring they enjoy their experience.

Callum Galloway, marketing manager at Imperial Commercials Derby, said: “It’s a privilege for us to give support to a local cricket club which has held a prominent place in the community for many years. We wish them every success.”
