DERBY VAN CENTRE LENDS A HELPING HAND TO LOCAL BUSINESSES

A leading Volkswagen Van Centre has put its new community initiative into practice – by helping to get two very different Volkswagen van drivers on the road.

Imperial Commercials Volkswagen Van Centre has donated a brand new Caddy van to Derby County Football Club mascot Rammie, whilst also supplying a Caddy to the owner of the new gym based at the Football Club.

The dealership says it was happy to help out as part of the company’s ‘Working with you’ initiative, which actively encourages greater community involvement and support for small businesses.

It gave Rammie his fourth new van in three years – this year decked out in full Derby County colours – whilst also helping local gym Funktion Fitness get exactly the right van for its needs.

The dealer was particularly keen to support Funktion Fitness because the community minded gym owner, Jon Leonard, has worked extremely hard to raise cash for cancer research over the last three years.

David Starr, head of business at Imperial Commercials Volkswagen Van Centre, said: “We feel it’s important to support local businesses like Funktion Fitness and it’s even more rewarding when it helps a good cause.”

Funktion Fitness opened earlier this year and the owner was grateful to have found the perfect vehicle to keep his business on the road.

Jon said: “The spacious Volkswagen Caddy is perfect for my business. With Funktion Fitness branding on the van, it is a great way to build awareness of the gym in the East Midlands.”

The gym has become renowned for holding regular boxing events to raise money for Cancer Research UK and stages warm-up exercises at Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life events throughout the whole of the East Midlands.

Emma Hallas, Cancer Research UK’s national events manager, said: “Jon is a real advocate of the charity. Every year he thinks of new ways to support us and encourages more and more Race for Life participants.

“And now with Funktion Fitness, he has really gone out of his way to get his members involved. We are really grateful for his ongoing support.”

David said: “Already having secured a sponsorship deal with Derby County Football Club, it was only fitting that we became associated with the club’s gym too.

“We have had an association with Derby County for the past three years and have recently signed up for a further two years.”

“We look forward to continuing our relationship with the club and the new gym and supporting their fantastic work with Cancer Research UK.”
