Former hairdresser’s success at building new career

A former hairdresser is proving that she’s a cut above the rest after taking the brave decision to completely change her job and start out in the housing industry in the hope of building a new career.

Lisa Lally, 45, from Hinckley, had been a hairdresser for more than 28 years but decided it was time to hang up the scissors and start out in something new.

The mum from Hinckley decided that she wanted more out of her working life and was keen to find something that would not only provide her with a challenge but with a real progressive career path.

When Lisa saw that Charles Church North Midlands wanted new sales advisors she was quick to apply and soon found herself based at an exclusive development in Stoney Stanton.

She said: “I wanted to forge a real career and to find something that I was interested in.  It has all worked out fantastic as I absolutely love what I’m doing and it puts a real spring in my step coming in to work.

“It is just having the courage to change your life, your routines and follow your dreams, use all of the information and advice that comes your way and grab every opportunity.  I consider myself to be really lucky that I’ve been given the support within the role by Charles Church and it is all really working out for me.”

Lisa’s hairdressing started by chance as a teenager when she found a Saturday job in a salon whilst still at school. She went on to become self-employed, renting a chair within barbers shops for many years until eventually owning two shops herself for several years.

“As time went on I lost my enthusiasm for hairdressing, it became groundhog day,” continued Lisa.  “But I’ve always had a real interest in property and interiors, when my husband and I then also bought a new build home ourselves the purchase was made so easy for us.  It was a stress free, fast process and I thought how lovely it must be helping people to choose and buy their dream home.  I was thrilled when I was offered the position, it is ideally suited to me.”

Lisa, whose children are aged from 8 up to 25 years added “My husband and family were very supportive of me changing my career and working more hours, even though it meant working at weekends, they have all helped in one way or another.”

Lisa has been inspired when it comes to marketing ideas for Charles Church Sophia, a luxury development of three and four bedroom homes.  She has sourced advertising boards, designed magnetic car logos and had stands at local wedding fairs to offer information and advice on all new build purchasing schemes to aid future newlyweds looking for their dream home.

Lisa, whose son 20 has joined the Navy, said:  “The magnets are really popular and certainly get noticed.  I also go to wedding fairs and have a stand so that I can chat to future brides about their dream home.”

Sherrie Hankin, head of sales at Charles Church North Midlands, said: “Lisa has been a wonderful addition to our sales team and really goes above and beyond to help her customers.  She is always there to help everyone and is very knowledgeable about the area, we couldn’t wish for a better sales advisor.”
