Persimmon Homes South West is looking to increase its workforce by creating its own skilled team of tradesmen to cope with a boom in the housing industry across the south west.
The developer is expanding so quickly across the region that to cope with the busy demands of a building site they are looking to increase their workforce.
Bricklayers, carpenters, dry liners, decorators, plumbers, electricians and kitchen fitters are all needed as the developer expands across sixteen developments throughout the South West with more openings planned for 2014.
Nina Hester, sales and marketing director, said that traditionally the building industry used sub-contractors for their work, but trade has improved so much over the past year that they have decided to take the unusual step of building up their own skilled workforce.
She said: “Despite the economic uncertainty of the past few years, the housing trade is buoyant at the moment.
“We want experienced people to get in touch with us as we look to expand. The market is growing and we build around 700 homes a year so we are keen to know that the experience is there for us to use at all times as we continue to build quality homes across the board.
“It is unusual for a developer to create its own workforce as such but we see it as the way forward and will ensure the continued success of the company.
“We have always believed in investing in skills and we know the south west is full of workmen that pride themselves on doing an excellent job and we want to hear from them.”
The group is also looking to invest in apprentices and create a highly qualified workforce for the future. They recently took on two apprentice bricklayers and two apprentice carpenters.
Nina added: “We are keen to encourage young people into the building industry and by training them ourselves we know that they will be among the best workmen you can find.”
