EXPECTANT BRUMMIES LAUNCH SEASON WITH SELCO CLASSIC

Big-time speedway will make its seasonal return to Birmingham next week with an all-star line-up ready to do battle in the inaugural Selco Classic.

The invitational event will be staged on Wednesday, March 19 and is a joint collaboration between the Birmingham Brummies and their title sponsors Selco Builders Warehouse.

A dozen riders, including Brummies’ heroes past and present, will be in action in an event which will act as a perfect prelude to the new Elite League season.

Brummies’ 2014 riders Ben Barker, Edward Kennett, Danny King, Adam Sknornicki and Daniel Nermark will be in action in the Selco Classic, along with two members of the squad who led them to the top of the Elite League last year, three-time British champion Chris Harris and Josh Auty.

They will be joined by Grand Prix ace Freddie Lindgren, Wolverhampton star Ty Proctor, Sheffield’s former Birmingham man Adam Roynon, Swindon’s Peter Kildemand and Coventry’s Ryan Fisher. The 12-strong field will compete over 12 heats for places in the semi-finals.

There will also be a series of races between Birmingham and Leicester reserve riders Paul Starke, Simon Lambert, Max Clegg and Tom Perry.
The event further strengthens the link between Birmingham Brummies and Selco Builders Warehouse, who are now into a third season of sponsoring the team.

Selco Builders Warehouse CEO Chris Cunliffe said: “Everyone at Selco is very proud of our on-going association with the Birmingham Brummies and to play a leading role in such a prestigious pre-season event is extremely pleasing.

“A really high class field has been assembled and we are very excited about what the night has in store.”

Charles Phillips, Birmingham Brummies director, said: “Selco has become an extremely key partner to the Birmingham Brummies over the past two years and will be again in 2014.

“We are delighted to be hosting the Selco Classic at Perry Barr and it promises to be a fantastic night of speedway.

“It will be a great opportunity for Brummies fans to have a first view of our exciting new-look team and welcome back riders who did so brilliantly for the club last year.

“We are hoping for a bumper crowd and a great night to start the season.”

The first heat will begin at 7.30pm with entry £10 adults. £8 concessions, £3 for children aged between five and 17, with under fives entering the stadium for free.

Selco trade card holders will receive free admission to the meeting on production of their trade card and number.
