First step on the career ladder for Wrexham apprentice

A young car enthusiast impressed the bosses at Wrexham Volkswagen so much while on work experience, that he landed himself an exclusive three-year training course.

Sam Butler, 16, is the latest recruit on the company’s technician apprenticeship scheme, which will see Wrexham Volkswagen invest almost £40,000 in him.

John McFall, service manager at the Rhosrobin dealership, said: “Sam first came to our attention when he chose to do his work experience placement with us while he was still at school.

“We were so impressed with his attitude and willingness to learn from that week that as soon as a position became available he was our first choice. He has settled in really well and will become a great asset to the team.”

Sam, who is from Wrexham and attended Bryn Alyn secondary school, is thrilled to have joined Wrexham Volkswagen, which is part of the family owned Swansway Group.

“To be offered this type of apprenticeship with a company like Wrexham Volkswagen is a dream come true,” said Sam

“I definitely want to reach the top level of my trade and become a master technician and I know that it will take a lot of hard work. But so far so good, and I would recommend it to anyone.”

When he’s not at work, Sam can be found on the terraces supporting his local team, Wrexham FC, on his Xbox or listening to music.
