Persimmon Homes receives seal of approval from Mayor

A leading house builder welcomed the Mayor of Barnsley to officially open its new housing development in Royston, bringing 143 new homes to the region.

Councillor Ken Richardson cut the ribbon to the Persimmon Homes showhome giving the Scholars Gate site, off Midland Road, his seal of approval.

The development, which features a mix of three and four bedroom properties, has already sold more than a dozen homes off-plan since its launch in late 2013.

Councillor Richardson, who was shown around the new three storey four-bedroom Lumley showhome, is very pleased to welcome new homes to the region.

He said: “I am delighted to see a leading housebuilder investing in Royston. The region needs a range of affordable and spacious new homes and Persimmon Homes is meeting this need.

“The construction of new developments like this also boosts the local economy by creating additional jobs.”

The Mayor was joined by customers and the town’s estate agents as part of the opening.

Simon Whalley, Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire sales director, said “We are delighted that the Mayor helped to launch our new showhome and ultimately the development.

“This is the first time we have built in Royston and we have been overwhelmed with its early success.

“We believe it’s a combination of building the right house styles in the right location for the right prices.

“The popularity of the Government-backed Help to Buy scheme has also opened the doors for many buyers enabling them to afford a larger property, which they might have previously dismissed.”

The Help to Buy scheme allows buyers to secure a home with just a five per cent deposit and as little as a 75 per cent mortgage. The remainder is made up by a Government-backed shared-equity loan which is interest-free for five years.

Simon added: “House hunters who already own a property can also take advantage of our fabulous Home Change scheme, where we help them to secure a buyer for their old home, allowing them to proceed with purchasing their dream home with Help to Buy.”

Prices at Scholars Gate start at £133,950* for a three bedroom terrace, three bedroom detached start from £172,950* and a four bedroom detached property starts at £197,950*.
